List of best-selling singles of the 1990s in the United Kingdom
The UK Singles Chart is a music chart compiled by the Official Charts Company that calculates the best-selling singles of the week in the United Kingdom.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=The Official UK Charts Company )〕 During the 1990s the chart was based purely on the sales of physical singles, with airplay figures excluded from the official chart.
Between 1990 and 1999, 26 singles sold more than 1 million copies in the United Kingdom. British singer-songwriter Elton John had the best selling single of the decade with his double A-side single "Something About the Way You Look Tonight" / "Candle in the Wind 1997", released in 1997. The single sold 4.86 million copies, over 3 million copies more than the second biggest seller, "Unchained Melody" / "White Cliffs of Dover" by Robson and Jerome. At number five is Cher with "Believe", making her have the most copies sold for a female artist throughout the 1990s.
"Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia is the best selling single not to top the charts (number two), placed at number 27 on this chart. On this chart, seven singles were Christmas number ones: "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston, "Mr Blobby" by Mr Blobby, "Stay Another Day" by East 17, "Earth Song" by Michael Jackson, and "2 Become 1", "Too Much" and "Goodbye" by Spice Girls. The Spice Girls are the most featured artists on this chart with eight of their singles appearing, including their biggest hit "Wannabe" at number 12.
